Abstract
This study analyzes hate speech in comments on the Instagram account @bobbynst. The discourse emerged after Bobby Nasution proposed joint management of four islands on the Aceh-North Sumatra border: Panjang, Lipan, Mangkir Gadang, and Mangkir Ketek. These islands belong administratively to Aceh Singkil Regency. The research identifies the forms of hate speech and their underlying causes. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study examines netizen comments related to the island management issue. Data collection involved observation and note-taking. The analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Results reveal 160 instances of hate speech: 80 cases of general hatred, 35 of defamation, 3 of blasphemy, 11 of incitement, 19 of provocation, and 12 of spreading fake news. Additionally, five factors drive this speech: accusing the interlocutor (49 cases), cornering the interlocutor (41), emotional triggers (40), direct criticism (26), and protectiveness (4).
