TINDAK TUTUR EKSPRESIF DAN STRATEGI BERTUTUR DALAM NOVEL AKU JUGA INGIN DIANGGAP KARYA WULAN DWI BIRAENG

Abstract

This study analyzes the manifestation of expressive speech acts and politeness strategies in the novel Aku Juga Ingin Dianggap by Wulan Dwi Biraeng. The focus includes classifying forms of expressive acts based on Searle’s theory and mapping speaking strategies from the perspective of Brown and Levinson. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through tapping and note-taking techniques, then processed through stages of identification, classification, and contextual interpretation. Findings indicate that expressive utterances in the novel are dominated by the disclosure of negative emotions, such as hatred, condemnation, and misery, alongside positive expressions of praise and appreciation. In the pragmatic dimension, characters tend to utilize the bald-on-record strategy as the primary communication mode. The preference for this strategy is driven by the close relationship between characters and equal social status during interactions. This study concludes that the selection of direct speaking strategies functions to reinforce the intensity of the speaker's emotions. These results contribute to pragmatic literary studies, specifically in understanding the link between emotional expression, communication strategies, and situational contexts in constructing narrative dynamics.
