POTRET PERILAKU MENYIMPANG TOKOH DALAM NOVEL METROPOP PURPLE PROSE KARYA SUARCANI

Abstract

This study was motivated by the prevalence of deviant behavior in society, which is often depicted in popular literature, particularly in metropop novels. The purpose of this study is to examine the forms of deviant behavior exhibited by characters, the contributing factors, and the impacts depicted in Suarcani’s metropop novel Purple Prose. This is a qualitative literary study employing a descriptive method. The data in this study consist of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences related to narrative elements that depict deviant behavior. The data source for this study is the novel Purple Prose by Suarcani. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that in Suarcani’s novel Purple Prose, various forms of deviant behavior among characters are found, including behavior viewed and considered as crime, the use of narcotics and illegal drugs, and lifestyles that differ from the norm. The factors influencing the emergence of deviant behavior include factors originating from within the individual and factors originating from outside the individual, such as an unhealthy family environment and social circles. Such deviant actions lead to social exclusion, impaired psychological development, feelings of guilt, criminality, disruption of social balance, and the erosion of values and norms.
