Abstract
The widespread use of abbreviations on social media highlights the dynamism and creativity of the Indonesian language in the digital world. This study aims to describe the types and formation processes of Indonesian abbreviations in user tweets on the @komunitasmarahmarah account on the social media platform X. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data sources consisting of tweets containing abbreviated forms. Data were collected through observation and note-taking, then analyzed by identifying the original forms, classifying them based on Kridalaksana’s abbreviation categories, verifying the usage context, and presenting frequency distributions. After analysis, 97 valid abbreviation data points were obtained, consisting of 67 abbreviations (69.07%), 19 acronyms (19.59%), 8 truncations (8.25%), and 3 letter symbols (3.09%). Abbreviations are the most dominant form, encompassing common forms such as ABK and UMKM as well as informal digital forms like ttd and mtr. Acronyms and truncations demonstrate the use of both established forms and digital conversational forms, while letter symbols indicate the use of standard symbols in tweets. These findings underscore the importance of distinguishing between morphological abbreviations, graphic shortening, and informal spelling variations in social media language analysis. This study contributes to strengthening the morphological analysis of the Indonesian language in digital communication spaces.
