TINDAK TUTUR EKSPRESIF DAN STRATEGI BERTUTUR DALAM NOVEL AKU TAK MEMBENCI HUJAN KARYA SRI PUJI HARTINI: KAJIAN PRAGMATIK

Abstract

This study highlights the significance of comprehending expressive speech acts as manifestations of speakers' emotions in literary works. The novel Aku Tak Membenci Hujan by Sri Puji Hartini was selected due to its rich array of expressive utterances reflecting character emotional dynamics. The research aims to describe forms of expressive speech acts based on Searle's theory and analyze politeness strategies using Brown and Levinson's framework. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the analysis examines expressive utterances in the novel Aku Tak Membenci Hujan by Sri Puji Hartini. Data were gathered via observation and note-taking techniques, then processed through identification, classification, interpretation, and conclusion-drawing stages. Findings reveal 150 instances of expressive speech acts across nine categories, anger (33 cases), apologies (28), complaints (22), praise (21), thanks (18), criticism (11), congratulations (10), blame (5), and hatred expressions (2). Additionally, five speech strategies emerged, direct speech without preliminaries (BTT) with 53 instances, direct speech with positive politeness (BTKP) at 42, direct speech with negative politeness (BTKN) at 39, indirect speech (BTS) at 16, while silent speech (BTD) was absent. These results illustrate that emotions in the novel are conveyed straightforwardly to intensify conflicts and character development. The study contributes to pragmatics by exploring language's role in conveying emotional expression in literature.
