Abstract
The pervasive use of slang abbreviations in TikTok comment columns reflects ongoing morphological shifts in Indonesian within the digital landscape. This study aims to identify the types and formation processes of slang abbreviations found on three comedy and daily-life themed TikTok accounts (@iniganta, @pujayjandaselusin, @aisyaahpm). Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques and analyzed using Kridalaksana's (2007) abbreviation theory. The analysis of 200 data points revealed four types of abbreviation: initialisms (131), acronyms (34), clippings (32), and letter symbols (3), while contractions were absent. Initialisms dominated (65.5%), primarily formed by retaining the first letter of each component or specific letters from a single word, indicating that speed and efficiency are key priorities in digital communication. This research offers a theoretical contribution by enriching Indonesian morphological studies with empirical digital data, and a practical contribution by serving as a reference for lexicographers, educators, and digital literacy advocates in mapping the language creativity of the younger generation.
