Abstract

This article discusses the traditional questions of the people of Nagari Manggopoh, Lubuk Basung District, Agam Regency. The purpose of this study was to determine the category and function of the traditional questions of the Nagari Manggopoh community. The techniques used for data collection are three, namely, (1) compiling interview guidelines for informants related to the categories and social functions of traditional questions, (2) conducting interviews to reveal traditional question data owned by the Nagari Manggopoh community by recording informants' speech using smartphone (audio and video), (3) Moving recorded data into written data (transcription). The method used in analyzing research data is descriptive analysis method. From the results of data analysis, 10 out of 11 categories of traditional questions of the Nagari Manggopoh community were found. The functions of traditional questions of the Nagari Manggopoh community are to test intelligence, means of education, to exceed others (One-Umpmanship) and as a means of entertainment.
