Potret Gaya Hidup Metropolitan Tokoh Utama Pada Novel Heartbreak Motel Karya Ika Natassa

Abstract

This research describes the metropolitan lifestyle of the main character in the novel Heartbreak Motel by Ika Natassa, focusing on four aspects: image lifestyle, trends, human interest, and crisis lifestyle. This analysis uses literary sociology theory and A.B. Susanto's concept of a portrait of the metropolis lifestyle. The method used is descriptive qualitative method, by collecting data through reading techniques and marking relevant sources, as well as inventorying data in a predetermined format. The research data are words and sentences related to the metropolitan lifestyle, especially those experienced by the main character in the novel. Heartbreak Motel was published by Gramedia Pustaka Utama in Jakarta in 2023, seventh printing, with 400 pages. Data analysis involved classification of information, interpretation of results, and summary of findings. The results showed that: (1) the image lifestyle is characterized by self-image, achievement and prestige, mass media, and millennial tendencies; (2) the trend lifestyle includes activities around the city and the world, chatting in cafes, virtual lifestyles, and the selection of quality goods without regard to sustainability; (3) the human interst lifestyle involves interaction with stress, instant culture, and westernized identity; and (4) the crisis lifestyle is related to profession, and careers abroad. This research contributes to understanding the identity of metropolitan lifestyles in the modern era, as well as being a reference for literary sociology and dynamic lifestyle development.
