Abstract

This study aims to describe; (1) gender bias in Ratih Kumala's novel Gadis Kretek: feminist discourse analysis, (2) the logic of gender bias in Ratih Kumala's novel Gadis Kretek: feminist discourse analysis, (3) the impact of gender bias in Ratih Kumala's novel Gadis Kretek: feminist discourse analysis. The object of this study is Ratih Kumala's novel Gadis Kretek published in 2012. This research method is a descriptive method with a feminist discourse analysis approach. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses and sentences related to gender bias, the logic of gender bias, and the impact of gender bias in Ratih Kumala's novel Gadis Kretek: feminist discourse analysis. The researcher in this study is the main instrument using a number of formats, both for data collection and data analysis. The data collection technique used in this study is reading Ratih Kumala's novel Gadis Kretek, as well as inventorying data into a data inventory format and grouping data related to gender bias. The data analysis technique used in this study is to group data on gender bias, gender bias logic, and gender bias impacts, then analyze the data obtained according to the research problem. The results of this study are; (1) gender bias, (2) gender bias logic; (3) the impact of gender bias on characters, consisting of three impacts, namely; (a) psychological impact, (b) moral impact and (c) the impact of the destruction of idealism.
