Stratifikasi Sosial Masyarakat Jawa dalam Novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk karya Ahmad Tohari

Abstract

This study focuses on the social stratification system in Javanese society in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari. This study is a type of qualitative literary research using descriptive methods. The reason the researcher used a descriptive qualitative research method. In collecting data, the researcher used several techniques, namely, reading and understanding the novel, conducting a literature study, and marking event data related to the research problem. In the data analysis technique, the researcher took several steps, including classifying data, interpreting data, concluding data findings, and reporting research results by inventorying data in tabular form. The results of this study found several data related to the social stratification system in Javanese society in the novel Ronggeng Dukuh Paruk by Ahmad Tohari. The data found in this novel are three forms of social stratification: (1) the priyayi class (bureaucrats), (2) the wong dagang or saudagar class (traders), and (3) the wong cilik class (common people). The factors causing the social stratification of Javanese society in this novel are wealth, power and honor. The impact of social stratification of Javanese society in this novel is social conflict and competition.
