Abstract

This article discusses communication strategies in the speech act of ordering performed by the village community in recent Indonesian novels. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explain: (1) speech strategies in the speech act of ordering in 3 recent Indonesian novels, (2) the context of speech situation as well as speech strategies used in each context of speech situation in 3 selected recent Indonesian novels. This type of research is qualitative research using descriptive method. The data of this research are speech strategies in the speech act of telling and the context of speech situation in the latest Indonesian novels. The tool in this research is the researcher himself, while the method used for data collection is the written data source method in the form of dialogs of the characters contained in the novel Pulang by Tere Liye and the work of Andre Hinata. The novel Pulang by Tere Liye, Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata, and Ranah 3 Warna by Ahmad Fuadi were chosen as the research objects. The data analysis technique went through three stages, namely data collection technique, data identification, and data collection of speech strategies. Based on the data analysis, 267 data of research findings were obtained as follows: The data of this research is in the form of speech strategy in the speech act of encouragement and its context. The data were collected through writing method. Based on the data analysis, two research findings were found. First, there are five types of speech strategies, i.e. talk and keep talking.
